Its narrow bright wall with its serrated shadow. the conspicuous crater. the clefts and ridges and other details on the floor together with the beautiful group of objects on the neighbouring plain and the great Serpentine ridge on the East never fail to excite the interest of the observer.
The circumvallation, which is far from being perfectly regular, is about 62 miles in diameter and considering its size is not remarkable for its altitude as it nowhere exceeds 6000 feet above the interior which is depressed about 2000 feet below the surrounding plain.
Its continuity, especially on the East, is interrupted by gaps. On the North the wall is notably deformed. It is broader and more regular on the West where it includes a large longitudinal depression and on the NWest section stand two bright little ring-plains. On the floor. which shines with a glittering lustre are the well-marked remains of a second ring nearly concentric with the principal rampart and separated from it by an interval of nine or ten miles.
The most prominent object, however, is the bright crater a little East of the centre. This is partially surrounded on the West by three or four small bright mountains through which runs in a meridional direction a rill-valley not easily traced as a whole except under a low sun.
Between the principal crater and the S.E. wall are two smaller craters. which are easy objects. Beyond the border on the N, in addition to Daniell, are four conspicuous craters and many ridges.

 Su estrecha y brillante pared, con su sombra serrada, el conspicuo cráter, las hendiduras, crestas y otros detalles del suelo, junto con el hermoso conjunto de objetos en la llanura vecina y la gran cordillera serpentina al este, siempre despiertan el interés del observador.
La circunvalación, que dista mucho de ser perfectamente regular, tiene unos 100 Kms de diámetro y considerando su tamaño no destaca por su altitud ya que en ningún punto supera los 1800 metros sobre el interior, que se encuentra hundido unos 600 metros por debajo de la llanura circundante.
Su continuidad, especialmente al este, se ve interrumpida por brechas. Al norte, la pared está notablemente deformada. Es más ancha y regular al oeste, donde incluye una gran depresión longitudinal y en la sección noroeste se alzan dos pequeñas y brillantes llanuras anulares. En el suelo, con un brillo resplandeciente, se encuentran los restos bien marcados de un segundo anillo casi concéntrico con la muralla principal y separado de ella por un intervalo de unos 15 kms.
El objeto más prominente, sin embargo, es el cráter brillante situado ligeramente al este del centro. Este está parcialmente rodeado al oeste por tres o cuatro pequeñas montañas brillantes, a través de las cuales discurre en dirección meridional un valle-surco difícil de rastrear en su conjunto, excepto con el sol bajo.
Entre el cráter principal y la pared sureste hay dos cráteres más pequeños, que son fáciles de localizar. Más allá del límite norte, además de Daniell, hay cuatro cráteres conspicuos y numerosas crestas.
