M8/M20/M21/NGC6559 - Nebula complex mosaic  
Sagittarius

Giant interstellar cloud and H II region. Mosaic composed of two images.		  
 
At an estimated distance of 4,100 light-years, the Lagoon Nebula, M8 or NGC6523, is one of only two star-forming nebulae faintly visible to the naked eye from mid-northern latitudes. The nebula has a fragile star cluster superimposed on it, making this one of the leading celestial sights of summer night skies.

The Trifid Nebula (also known as Messier 20 and NGC6514) is an H II region with a remarkable collection of open cluster, emission nebula (the lower, red portion), reflection nebula (the upper, blue portion) and dark nebula (the septation within the emission nebula causing the trifid appearance, also designated Barnard 85).

NGC 6559 is the brightest patch of emission nebulosity in the upper side of the image.

M21 isan open cluster of young stars of 4.6 million years of age. It contains about 57 stars. A few blue giant stars have been identified in the cluster, mainly composed of small dim stars.
