The Milky Way at Cygnus and Earth's shadow		  
 
At sunrise or sunset, when the sun is just below the horizon, this effect can be seen if the correct atmospherical conditions are met. What you see here is simply the earth's shadow being cast in the sky. One could say that it's the border between day (above) and night (below).

Since this phenomenon is seen all the way from side to side on the horizon, it's difficult to take a picture of the whole effect, this being only a small part. The horizon is faintly seen here and is levelled with the picture. The shadow, however, is leaning. Try to imagine it as a part of the whole bow displayed as the shadow of a spherical object, the planet earth.

 Dawning Earth shadow is the cause of light curve at bottom.
This is the first of a serie of four pictures taken between 4:04h and 4:23h (local time). In the next picture, at 4:16h (local time), taken with exactly same equipment and frame, Earth's shadow is missing. Effect is thus of very short duration and difficult to capture.

Esta es la primera imagen de una serie de cuatro tomadas entre las 4:04 y las 4:23h (hora local). En la siguiente imagen, a las 4:16h, tomada con exactamente el mismo equipo y encuadre, la sobra de la Tierra ya no aparece. El efecto es por tanto de muy corta duración y difícil de capturar.
